Lighting Designer
Reese Hackman is an engineering and consulting firm specializing in the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, low voltage, and telecommunications systems to enhance architecture. Our goal is to “create environments for the benefit of people” through academic, athletic, recreational, and senior-living spaces.
About the role
As a Lighting Designer at Reese Hackman, you will combine technical expertise, creative vision, and leadership skills to design innovative lighting solutions that enhance the built environment. You will play a key role in shaping design direction, fostering strong client relationships, mentoring emerging lighting designers, and ensuring design excellence across every phase of project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Support lighting design projects from concept through construction
- Design innovative and impactful lighting solutions that align with project goals and architectural intent
- Provide technical input and help maintain quality across project deliverables
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and consultants to support integrated design solutions
- Contribute to building client relationships through responsive communication and reliable project support
- Assist in mentoring junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Evaluate existing lighting systems and develop creative, energy-efficient renovation solutions
- Ensure code compliance and design excellence, including NEC, IES, NFPA, and energy codes
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in the design of lighting systems for commercial and institutional projects
- 2 or 4-year college degree
- Experience in the development of lighting design concepts and implementation of those concepts through all phases of design
- Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Architectural Engineering degree (ABET-accredited) with emphasis on lighting design
- Proficient in Revit
