Light-Duty Diesel Mechanic
Performs basic repair work on fleet vehicles to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation service to the public for the City of Edmond. Provides vital information pertaining to the maintenance department to the Director of Maintenance to ensure a clean and safe working environment. Follows direct orders for basic repairs (e.g., changing tires, headlights, lights) and maintenance of vehicles, the facility, and the yard. Works with the Director of Maintenance to ensure compliance with regulations set by the Federal Transit Association (FTA) and the City of Edmond.
Responsibilities
- Record and report vehicle mileage and repairs to the Director of Maintenance to ensure every vehicle is safe for operation.
- Complete light repair work and record repairs per the Maintenance Plan.
- Diagnose and repair issues with vehicles, facility, and yard maintenance.
- Inspect and clean buses daily for issues pertaining to continued safe operation.
- Inspect the facility and yard daily for issues pertaining to the safety and appearance of ETM.
- Notify the Director of Maintenance of any issues pertaining to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of ETM.
- Submit parts request forms to ensure parts are ordered as needed and to aid in maintaining inventory stock.
- Carry the shop dispatch phone, receive calls from operators, and ensure vehicles are safe for operation.
- Report road calls in the logbook.
- Respond to vehicle accidents to aid in continued operation or removal of a vehicle from service.
- Respond to radio calls professionally and helpfully, ensuring quick and effective actions for routine and emergency situations.
- Provide operators with clear instructions on how to proceed in the event of vehicle issues.
- Communicate with other departments to ensure seamless public transportation services, including coordination with Maintenance, Paratransit, and Fixed Route bus service.
- Ensure vehicles are safe and available for next-day operation and inform the operations department of vehicle availability.
- Make on-the-spot analysis and decisions within the realm of authority and company policy.
- Respond to road calls in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic rules and regulations.
- Skill in operating personal computers and software applications including Excel and Word.
- Skill in identifying patterns, trends, and drawing conclusions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work varied shifts.
- Ample knowledge of vehicles, facility, and yard maintenance.
- Ability to follow simple and complicated instructions.
- Ability to seek, investigate, and perform work necessary for the daily operation of the Maintenance Department.
- Mechanical skills for light repairs such as changing tires, headlights, lights, and oil.
Hourly rate will be based on experience level. RATP Dev USA/Edmond reserves the sole right in determining the level of position offered based on the applicant’s work experience, skill level, and business needs.
