Role Summary
The Light Commercial Refrigeration Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing bakery and deli refrigeration equipment in active retail environments. This role focuses on self-contained and small remote systems and requires strong troubleshooting skills, customer communication, and the ability to work independently in the field.Roles and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, service, and repair light commercial refrigeration equipment, including reach-in coolers/freezers, prep tables, bakery display cases, deli cases, and small walk-in coolers/freezers
- Diagnose refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical system issues and perform repairs efficiently
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and food safety compliance
- Check refrigerant levels, pressures, superheat, and subcooling
- Replace compressors, evaporator and condenser fan motors, contactors, relays, and controls as needed
- Identify and repair refrigerant leaks in compliance with EPA regulations
- Safely recover, evacuate, and charge refrigeration systems
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding repairs, recommendations, and equipment condition
- Complete service documentation accurately using mobile service platforms
- Maintain service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory
- Follow all company safety policies and jobsite procedures
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of light commercial refrigeration service experience
- Hands-on experience with bakery, deli, grocery, or foodservice refrigeration equipment
- Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting skills
- EPA Universal Certification required
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize service calls and manage daily workload
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and occasional overtime
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience servicing bakery display cases and deli prep equipment
- Walk-in cooler/freezer service experience
- Basic hot-side equipment knowledge (ovens, proofers, warmers)
- Experience using digital service platforms and mobile dispatch systems
- Prior grocery or retail refrigeration service experience
