About the role

The Forklift Battery Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of forklifts by properly maintaining and optimizing battery performance.

Responsibilities

  • Battery Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and maintenance tasks to ensure the optimal performance of forklift batteries. This includes checking battery fluid levels, cleaning battery terminals, and monitoring battery charging processes.
  • Battery Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot battery issues, such as low voltage, short circuits, or battery cell damage.
  • Battery Testing and Monitoring: Utilize specialized tools and equipment to test battery capacity, voltage, and overall health. Monitor battery performance metrics and identify any abnormalities or signs of degradation.
  • Battery Replacement: Determine when a battery has reached the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced. Properly dispose of old batteries and install new batteries in forklifts.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of battery maintenance, repairs, replacements, and performance data. Generate reports on battery health, usage, and any recurring issues.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices when working with batteries. Follow relevant regulations and standards for battery handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other forklift technicians and maintenance teams to coordinate battery-related tasks and ensure smooth operations. Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and stakeholders regarding battery-related issues and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with battery systems, preferably in a forklift or automotive setting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of battery components, charging processes, and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with battery testing and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting battery-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Workplace Requirements

  • Work Environment While performing the duties of this Job, depending on site location, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in some work environments is occasionally loud.
