About the role
As the Head Mechanic, you are responsible for maintaining mobile and stationary equipment as well as the operation lines in a safe and effective manner. You will provide facility mechanical maintenance support to minimize production downtime and ensure efficiency and quality.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular service, testing, and assessment of forklifts/lift trucks and other equipment to ensure safe operation
- Maintain detailed service records and component adjustments made in the vehicles
- Observe and dismantle mechanical devices to access and adjust functional parts and control instruments
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting in accordance with NFPA guidelines
- Install plumbing for liquids and air, run electrical conduit, and wiring to secondary control panels
- Operate welder to weld various metals (iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and alloy metals)
- Conduct advanced electrical/electronic troubleshooting of control systems
- Perform precision mechanical adjustments on critical equipment
- Carry out building repairs, including electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry tasks
- Assist with the installation of new equipment and assembly lines
- Maintain and perform preventative and emergency maintenance on various equipment and machinery
- Assist in construction projects within the plant and warehouse
- Coordinate and facilitate vendor/contractor-supported services for routine and preventative maintenance
- Collaborate with engineers and project groups to upgrade or install new processes and equipment
- Respond to emergencies and work orders promptly
- Maintain logs and reports reflecting department activity, equipment usage, maintenance history, building inspections, etc.
- May be required to operate powered industrial trucks/equipment such as forklifts, lift trucks, boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.
- Attend any job-related training deemed necessary by supervision
- Follow all established standard operating and safety procedures as well as company policies
- Perform general housekeeping duties as necessary
- Perform other tasks assigned by management
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Lift Truck Certification preferred
- Successful completion of all required on the job training
- Successful completion of all required health and environmental safety training
- May be required to use PC and other department specific database systems
- Industrial Systems Technology degree or equivalent highly desired
- Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience in an industrial setting
Skills
- Cutting and torching
- Using drill press and hand drill
- Using a pipe threader
- Straight edge machine alignment and belt tensioning
- Hydraulics, pneumatics, and steam systems
- Performing job specific general maintenance duties that includes experience in maintenance of mechanical and low voltage electrical equipment
- General knowledge of applicable building, electrical, plumbing, generators, etc.
- Proficient using all applicable tools and equipment
- Operate in a team-based environment
- Basic math skills
- Keep simple records and make routine reports
- Apply skill, experience, and general knowledge to a wide range of tasks to adjust, repair, disassemble, replace, reassemble, and maintain equipment or facilities
- Read and understand technical documents and instructions such as blueprints, manufacturing, and installation instruction sheets, etc.
- Operate and perform preventative maintenance on assigned department equipment, machinery, tools, etc.
Work Environment
- May require bending, squatting, climbing, and other physical movement for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Working around moving equipment and in an industrial environment
- Working in an environment where there may be regular exposure to chemicals, noise from machinery, dust, fumes, and variable temperatures
- Due to work assignments may be required to drive to different work sites
