About the Role
Under the direction of the Lifestyles Manager, assists with the facilitation of activities and programming in Briarwood and/or Reflections of Briarwood.
Responsibilities
- Leading, creating, preparing, facilitating, and executing activity programs and one-on-one visits or pop-in casual visits as scheduled or needed.
- Assisting with daily life activities, such as meals, as a member of the Reflections team.
- Maintaining an appropriate and engaging environment by ensuring availability of supplies and engaging with family and visitors.
- Providing diversional and therapeutic programs and interventions for unit residents as needed.
- Assisting residents on escorted trips, outdoor time, special events, and holiday programs.
- Maintaining documentation in the EMR system, including assessments, progress notes, care plans, attendance, and descriptions of visits.
- Communicating with supervisors, residents, and associates about all activity-related concerns and needs.
- Cooperating with associates, families, residents, and volunteers to foster a resident-centered environment.
- Supervising and guiding volunteers, sharing knowledge, and providing feedback to the Lifestyles Manager.
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to promote resident participation and engagement.
- Contributing to the department by completing assigned tasks, offering program suggestions, and assisting with monthly calendar creation.
- Maintaining educational compliance with yearly training requirements per IDPH regulation.
- Assisting with maintaining and sanitizing departmental equipment, supplies, and office/programming areas.
- Providing transport or guidance to residents and families to support participation in recreational activities.
- Supporting Lifestyles functions through clerical support, such as copying.
- Encouraging resident participation in leisure activities through encouragement and provision of supplies.
- Completing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Environmental and Physical Demands
- Physical Activities: Frequently standing, walking, talking, hearing, bending, reaching, feeling, pushing, grasping, and smelling. Occasionally sitting, squatting, twisting, climbing stairs or ladders, balancing, crouching, crawling, or kneeling.
- Range of Motion: Frequently moving from shoulder and above, waist to shoulder, and waist and below height.
- Weight Lifting Requirements: Constantly lifting up to 10 lbs; occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Vision Requirements: Frequently utilizing peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Environmental Exposure: Occasionally exposed to biohazard materials and body fluids/blood. Required to operate equipment and be exposed to animals. Must wear protective clothing.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma preferred. CNA certification preferred.
- Experience: Experience in senior activities preferred. Experience with music, crafts, activities, or religious programming preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile individuals.
- Computer proficiency, including typing and experience using Microsoft Word.
- Willingness to work additional hours, different shifts, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Must meet local health regulations and pass post-offer pre-employment physical exam, which may include drug screening, criminal background investigation, and reference inquiry.
- Capable of performing responsibilities and essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Able to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to lead large groups.
Schedule
Full-time, Tuesday through Saturday.
