The Paperny Family JCC is seeking Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to join our team under the supervision of our Aquatics Manager.
Responsibilities
- Uphold a high standard of safety in the pool, hot tub, and sauna areas.
- Perform 15-minute walk cycles and scan the pool every 20 seconds.
- Enforce and educate patrons on pool, hot tub, and sauna rules and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of pool statistics, including head counts every 30 minutes.
- Set up the pool according to the schedule, including lane ropes, toys, and equipment.
- Perform swim tests for children.
- Conduct regular water tests and understand healthy water parameters.
- Respond to water contaminations as outlined by legislation.
- Enforce pre-swim showers and no shoes on deck.
- Prepare for lessons using Lifesaving Society (LS) resources, including lesson plans and awards guides.
- Meet candidates at designated areas, take attendance, and evaluate progress.
- Transfer names to LS exam sheets and provide constructive feedback to candidates.
- Submit group inter-term reports midway through lessons.
- Advise management of attendance changes or candidate updates.
- Keep all certifications current and attend lifeguarding in-services.
- Maintain high aquatic fitness standards.
- Check communication and schedules regularly via Facebook and WhenToWork.
- Respond to team requests within 24 hours via Facebook, WhenToWork, email, or text.
- Follow protocols for requesting shift subs or trades.
- Arrive 5–10 minutes before shift start; notify the customer service desk if late.
- End shifts as scheduled once a replacement has arrived.
- Wear proper attire: guard shirt, name tag, whistle, fanny pack, and radio.
- Complete time sheets accurately and on time.
- Commit to a minimum of two shifts per month and four in-services per year.
- Understand all Aquatics department services and programs.
- Regularly greet and engage with patrons in a friendly manner.
- Maintain a high level of organization and cleanliness in pool and deck areas.
- Store and clean up personal belongings promptly in designated areas.
- Periodically walk through change rooms to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Handle member complaints courteously; escalate unresolved issues to management.
- Complete opening and closing procedures.
- Respect and care for equipment; report and remove unsafe items.
- Perform minor and major maintenance duties as per the Weekly Maintenance Check List.
- Know and follow facility emergency procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in first aid, CPR, and AED.
- Respond to emergencies calmly and confidently.
- Assist in organizing, promoting, running, and cleaning up special events or programs as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current National Lifeguard certification.
- Current Lifesaving Instructor certification.
- Current Standard First Aid certification.
- Current CPR C certification.
