About the Role
Perform lifeguard duties at multiple municipal swimming pools and related tasks as required.
Responsibilities
- Enforce rules and regulations and maintain discipline.
- Rescue swimmers in distress and administer first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Assist with general maintenance and clean-up activities, including operation and maintenance of filters and chlorinators.
- Conduct tests to determine chlorine and acid levels and check equipment.
- Officiate at swim and dive meets.
Requirements
- Knowledge of lifesaving and first aid techniques.
- Ability to enforce pool rules and regulations, maintain discipline, and officiate swim and dive meets.
- Ability to operate mechanical equipment used in large swimming pools.
- Alertness, attentiveness, good judgment, patience, and understanding when dealing with children.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
Qualifications
- Valid First Aid Certificate meeting Emergency Medical Service Authority requirements at time of appointment.
- Valid Lifeguard Certificate from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, at time of appointment.
- Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Communicable Disease Certificates from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, within two weeks of appointment.
A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at time of appointment.
