Lifeguard

Responsibilities

• Maintain all lifeguard skills as required by certification.
• Actively scan and maintain appropriate positioning in the pool area at all times.
• Immediately and properly respond to medical emergencies.
• Effectively supervise participants to maintain safety standards.
• Follow and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.
• Positively correct any unsafe pool activity immediately.
• Be knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
• Report all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and submit to supervisor within 24 hours.
• Never leave the pool unattended.
• Follow all opening, closing, and shift procedures, including locking doors leading to the pool area after hours.
• Ensure all equipment is off the pool deck and appropriately stored.
• Report any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor in writing.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pool deck and perform cleaning duties as assigned.
• Maintain records such as chemical readings and daily attendance logs.
• Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
• Secure substitutes when necessary and notify supervisor in advance in writing.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and staff.
• Support Strong Community Campaign fundraising.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
