About the role

This position is responsible for the surveillance of patrons in the City's swimming pool facility and ensuring their safety by preventing and responding to emergencies. This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs surveillance of patrons in the swimming pool facility
• Recognizes emergencies and responds quickly and effectively to those emergencies
• Enforces all swimming pool facility policies, rules, and regulations
• Performs opening and closing duties including equipment set up, restroom cleaning, trash duties, and pool vacuuming
• Affords assistance to patrons in a friendly manner without compromising surveillance duties
• Inspects the swimming pool facility daily and reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Swimming Pool Manager
• Completes records and reports in a professional manner
• Participates in regular in-service training
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be 16 years of age or more
• Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification (or equivalent)
• Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Physical Requirements

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping
• The employee will climb a ladder, negotiate steps and stairs, talk, and hear
• The employee will occasionally lift, pull, push, or move items weighing up to 25 pounds
• The work is typically performed outdoors
• The employee will be exposed to loud noise, hazardous pool chemicals, and extreme weather conditions

Qualifications

An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by the City of Broken Arrow policies, including the successful completion of a background check and drug/physical screening.
