Pay

Hourly salary: $21.28 - $22.14

Schedule

This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position with working hours assigned at the discretion of the Recreation & Community Services Department. Candidates must be available to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or occasional weekends. Employees may work up to 20 hours per week, limited to 960 hours per fiscal year.

About the Role

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard will ensure the safe use of the pool and aquatic facility, supervise the conduct of pool patrons, enforce swimming pool rules, and respond to emergency situations as required. Responsibilities include:

• Administering First Aid, CPR, and performing other lifesaving activities
• Maintaining and safely working with materials and equipment
• Maintaining accurate files and records
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Responsibilities

• Ensure the general safety of children and pool patrons
• Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations
• Respond to emergency situations and perform lifesaving activities
• Administer First Aid and CPR as needed

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of submitting the application
• Possession of the following American Red Cross certifications or the ability to obtain within 30 days from the date of appointment:
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers
  • First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguard Training Certificate
• Candidates under 18 years of age and enrolled in high school must obtain and submit a valid work permit prior to employment

Skills

• Knowledge of professional lifesaving standards
• Physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform First Aid, CPR, and other lifesaving activities
• Ability to actively perform safety duties and safeguard individuals, public, and property
• Effective interaction with City staff, volunteers, and the public
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions in English
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin is highly desirable
