Lifeguard and Aquatics Operations Assistant

About the role

The Lifeguard and Aquatics Operations Assistant supports the Student and Campus Life division at Cornell University. This position oversees pool patrons during swimming, Physical Education and Outdoor Education courses, wellness and fitness courses, physical therapy, and intercollegiate swimming and diving practices. Key responsibilities include responding to emergencies, administering first aid, CPR, and AED, and assisting with the scheduling, supervising, and training of student lifeguards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pool patrons during assigned times
• Respond to emergency situations by providing first aid, CPR, and AED
• Open, supervise, and secure swimming pool areas before, during, and after swimming periods
• Aid in scheduling, supervising, and training student lifeguards
• Teach PE Swimming classes
• Provide tutoring service on swimming

Requirements

• High School Diploma and at least 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED Provider Certificate (requires yearly re-certification)
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate
• Prior swim instruction experience
• Basic computer skills of electronic mail, Microsoft Office, Google Drive
