About the role
This is a business leadership role within Accenture's Life Sciences MedTech practice, focused on R&D transformation. We are seeking a Principal Director who has built and run a meaningful practice, business unit, or market and is ready to do it again at Accenture scale. You will own a defined segment of our MedTech R&D growth agenda, setting strategy, building the team, originating and closing major client engagements, and being accountable for the P&L. AI fluency is central to how you lead and what you sell.
Responsibilities
- Own a defined segment of Accenture's MedTech R&D practice, including revenue targets, headcount, and margin.
- Develop and execute market strategy: define where to play, how to win, prioritize clients, and differentiate Accenture’s offering.
- Personally source and close transformational engagements with C-suite and VP-level R&D leaders at top MedTech OEMs and emerging digital health companies.
- Design and deploy AI-enabled solutions to accelerate product development, improve clinical operations, and build data-driven R&D organizations.
- Build executive-level client relationships to position Accenture as the long-term strategic partner for R&D transformation.
- Establish thought leadership and market positioning through publications, keynotes, and industry presence.
- Recruit, develop, and retain the next generation of Accenture’s MedTech R&D leaders.
Travel up to 75% to client locations is required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years working in or advising the MedTech R&D industry, with deep expertise in the product development and regulatory lifecycle. Specialization in at least one area: cardiovascular, neuromodulation, surgical robotics, diagnostics, digital health, or adjacent fields.
- Minimum of 10 years in management consulting or with a MedTech firm, with a demonstrated track record in business development, client origination, and practice leadership.
- Minimum of 10 years leading an organization (consulting practice, business unit, or commercial function) with accountability for people, revenue, and strategy.
- A Bachelor’s degree (science, engineering, or health-related field preferred); advanced degree is a strong plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to independently originate and close major engagements with senior buyers at MedTech OEMs.
- Hands-on experience leading or selling AI-enabled R&D transformation, including design and implementation.
- Established senior network of C-suite and VP-level R&D, innovation, and commercial leaders at MedTech OEMs who view you as a trusted advisor.
- Experience building and scaling a consulting practice or business development organization.
- Visible market presence through publications, keynotes, board/advisory roles, or a professional reputation in MedTech R&D.
