Position Overview
Provide technical design leadership and construction administration (CA) services for mission-critical data center facilities, focusing on code-compliant life safety, fire protection, and low-voltage systems. Manage multiple concurrent projects to ensure on-time execution, serving as Engineer of Record (EOR) with guidance from senior leadership. Execute field-based CA responsibilities balanced with 2D/3D BIM design, drawing production, and engineering calculations.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site punch walks, witness testing, system inspections, field reviews, and ongoing construction support.
- Develop technical specifications, equipment sizing, quantity estimates, and network diagrams for fire alarm, fire detection, smoke control/modeling, gas detection, explosion prevention, and suppression systems.
- Produce constructible 2D and 3D design deliverables using Autodesk Revit and CAD software.
- Coordinate directly with client counterparts, multidisciplinary design teams, and local code officials / Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Lead project workflows, manage technical resources, and mentor junior engineering staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
- Direct experience installing, inspecting, or witness-testing fire alarm and life safety systems in the field.
- Technical design expertise in fire alarm platforms, including VESDA, and familiarity with Notifier, Edwards, and Xtralis equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm and Signaling Code), and NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code).
- Proven ability to manage resources, lead engineering projects, and multi-task across concurrent timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- 4+ years of Autodesk Revit design and modeling experience.
- Direct design or CA background in mission-critical data center environments.
- Familiarity with NFPA 13 (Sprinkler), NFPA 75 (Data Centers), NFPA 76 (Telecom), and NFPA 2001 (Clean Agent Suppression).
- Experience in staff mentorship, project estimating, and mid-to-large-scale scheduling.
