Life Safety Systems/Fire Alarm Engineer

Responsibilities
- Work on various projects assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer, playing a role in the entire design process including preliminary assessments, concept creation, leading designs with peer support, problem resolution, drawing and specification production, and customer/vendor accessibility.
- Provide technical design leadership for fire alarm and detection systems, smoke control systems, fire protection systems, and other life safety or low-voltage systems in data center buildings.
- Ensure projects are completed on time while working on several concurrent projects.
- Deliver code-compliant asset protection, fire mitigation, and life safety solutions, including fire alarm, fire detection, fire suppression, gas detection, smoke modeling, and explosion prevention.
- Interface directly with client counterparts and state/local code officials during facility design.
- Use AutoCAD and Revit MEP to create 3D models in coordination with architects and engineers, designing fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, smoke and leak detection, security and intrusion detection systems, and more.
- Provide calculations, equipment sizing, specifications, network diagrams, and construction deliverables in both 2D and 3D platforms for constructible designs, adhering to Life Safety & Fire codes and industry standards.
- Provide guidance to co-workers and receive solutions from senior design professionals to take ownership of projects as the engineer of record.
- Mentor junior staff and lead projects, including estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- At least 4 years of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD design experience.
- Knowledge and design experience with Fire Alarm Systems and related manufacturers’ equipment, including VESDA systems.
- Knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 70 (NEC) and electrical design requirements.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license (preferred).
- Knowledge of NFPA 75, NFPA 76, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 13 codes.
- Design experience in data centers (preferred).
- Experience leading projects and managing resources.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Experience estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $70,000.00 to $140,000.00, paid hourly based on hours worked. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
Hybrid working policy allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
