About the Role
The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing programs that address the emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of residents in an assisted living setting. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of life for each resident through creative and engaging activities, while also coordinating volunteers to support these initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assure residents maintain social interactions and minimize reclusive tendencies.
- Encourage residents’ involvement in Resident Council and other committees.
- Plan and conduct large and small group events, both on-site and off-site.
- Maintain interaction with residents who prefer not to participate in group activities.
- Arrange and coordinate transportation for recreational activities.
- Obtain and maintain a CDL (if the facility has access to HPM Independent Living buses) and ensure a driving record in good standing.
- Maximize community involvement with local resources such as schools, colleges, senior centers, and churches.
- Plan holiday decorating, special events, and theme days.
- Serve as newsletter editor and coordinate event photography for marketing purposes.
- Take resident social histories and coordinate with staff to ensure resident satisfaction.
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers, including those involved in the GEMS program.
- Supervise and conduct performance reviews for the Life Enrichment Assistant (if applicable).
- Coordinate or lead a dementia support group for families, where applicable.
- Provide GEMS training to resident support staff, housekeeping, and culinary staff.
- Follow operational guidelines, state/local regulations, and best practices for senior activity programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain budget compliance for salary, supplies, entertainment, and transportation.
- Participate in family and community events, including Family GEMS training.
- Participate in evening and weekend Manager on Duty (MOD) rotation.
- Coordinate fundraising events.
- Comply with Life Safety policies and participate in periodic drills.
- Report safety and health hazards to supervisors.
- Report observed concerns or changes in a resident’s condition to the Shift Supervisor.
Requirements
- Education and experience relevant to working with frail elderly individuals, including those with dementia (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease).
- Coursework or experience in gerontology.
- Compassion for serving the frail elderly population.
- Innovative and creative thinking.
- May be a recreation therapist, COTA, OT, or state-certified Activity Therapist.
- Empathetic and perceptive to individual variations among residents.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Able to walk distances on hard surfaces and stand for extended periods.
- Able to bend, stoop, turn, twist, squat, kneel, push, pull, reach, and stretch.
- Able to sit for extended periods and perform some repetitive motion work.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Able to use a telephone for communication and read/comprehend written materials.
- Able to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Licensed driver with the ability to drive to appointments as needed (CDL required if access to HPM Independent Living buses).
- Must work on-site or at marketing events; this is not a remote position.

Pay
Hourly range: $23.00–$24.00. Eligible for a 2% pay increase after 90 days of employment with a satisfactory review. Annual merit-based increases are determined through a comprehensive performance review.
