About the role

Join a team that protects the health and safety of all people in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by helping professional nurses meet licensure and certification requirements. As a Licensing and Certification Evaluator with the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs’ (BPOA) State Board of Nursing, you will review applications and documentation from current and aspiring professionals and continuing education providers to ensure compliance with established standards while delivering top-tier customer service. This role supports professional integrity, accountability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Respond to and make phone calls, as well as prepare detailed and routine written correspondence to help applicants and licensees understand and meet requirements.
  • Experience Verification: Research professional applicants’ advanced education and experience documentation to ensure course content, semester credits, job descriptions, and hours of experience meet eligibility standards.
  • Program Evaluation: Audit and review continuing education courses and the colleges and programs providing them to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Eligibility Determinations: Use specific guidelines to determine eligibility and approval for initial and reactivation licensure and certification.
  • Information Requests: Research and respond to specific and general inquiries about applications, Board requirements, and related matters.
  • Records Management: Maintain official certification records and ensure complete and accurate licensure data is entered into the system.

Schedule

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch (schedule is negotiable).
  • Telework: Opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 50%, after successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and an approved location within Pennsylvania. If telework is not feasible, you may report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Telework eligibility is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
    • One year of experience as a Clerical Assistant 3 or Clerk Typist 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
    • One year of complex clerical experience; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements. Review residency guidelines for more information.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
