Licensed Vocational Nurse- Senior (CBH Biggs Alzheimer’s Department)

About the role

The LVN works under the supervision of an RN, a Dentist, or a member of the Medical Staff, providing general nursing care to patients. They may lead or mentor lower-level team members.

Responsibilities

• Experience working with patients with Alzheimer’s and the geriatric population
• Sorts, prioritizes, and manages patient messages and calls
• Schedules patient appointments
• Prepares patients for examinations, sets up and maintains sterile fields, and assists clinical staff with examinations and clinical care
• Documents patient care activities
• Aids providers with procedures, performs patient discharges, and verifies communication of instructions with patients and families
• Maintains assigned work areas with supplies and equipment, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment
• Transports patients safely
• Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT), documents findings, and reports to the RN in charge and/or provider
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of vocational nursing experience is required.
• Supports the mission, vision, and patient promise throughout all interactions.
• Communicates effectively, written and verbally.
• Possesses analytical thinking – this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
• Participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.
• Mets all training and competency requirements.

Skills

• Functions within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
