About the role

The Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, TX is seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Department staff member to join their team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess condition of and prescribe treatment for detainees reporting to sick call.
  • Aid in provider line preparation, ensuring examining room and equipment are ready.
  • Operate pill call, administer medication, and document as necessary.
  • Control medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment as required.
  • Perform emergency procedures as needed and call the physician for treatment orders.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
  • Observe applicable HIPAA rules and closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.
  • Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
  • Perform work on an on-call basis as required.
  • Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs.
  • Conduct chart reviews for detainees with serious health problems to ensure completion of necessary interventions and treatments.
  • Perform rescue functions for accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
  • Requires prolonged periods of walking and standing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited licensed vocational nursing program.
  • Current, valid vocational nursing license for the state of Texas or a compact state.
  • Six months of related experience is needed.
  • Must have a current CPR certification.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
  • Successful completion of required pre-service training is mandatory.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, and proficiency in using medical equipment are essential.
