Licensed Veterinary Technician - ICU

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Brooklyn is seeking skilled Licensed Veterinary Technicians to join their ICU team. The ICU operates on a Day Shift schedule from Thursday to Saturday, with additional hours on weekends.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients using anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases, obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique, including patient positioning.
• Understand and interpret normal patient vital signs, including heart and respiratory rates, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Calculate medical math (constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.

Requirements

• Current license as a Veterinary Technician.
• Experience in ICU settings preferred.
• Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and catheter placement.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized veterinary technician program.
• Pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
• Preferred completion of a VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialty) credential.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $51.32 per hour, with shift differentials based on eligibility and hours worked. Shift differentials are calculated based on a 4-hour minimum and can vary depending on the shift.

Schedule

• Day Shift: Thurs - Sat, 7am - 7pm.
• Nights and Weekends: 8am - 6pm, 6pm - 8am, and additional hours as needed.
