Licensed Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain vital signs, document in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit.
• Aid veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasias, maintaining direct supervision from veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
• Perform patient restraint, collect and process laboratory samples, administer medications, and maintain the electronic medical record.
• Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, update inventory, and manage accounts receivable.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthesia and recovery, and ensure safe discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, maintain cleanliness, and assist with patient care as needed.
• Participate in the training of new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
• Support the hospital environment by keeping it neat and clean, adhering to a maintenance schedule, and performing regular cleaning tasks.

Requirements

• College or college-equivalent education (completed) as required for becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state in which the hospital is located.
• At least 1-year previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Careful and sympathetic attitude, maintaining a professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
• Telephone and computer skills.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology or related field.
• Current certification as a Veterinary Technician in the state in which the hospital is located.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Knowledge of veterinary medicine and procedures.
