Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor - Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program

About the role

The Fargo VA Health Care System is recruiting for a full-time Mental Health Counselor for the Mental Health Integrated Care Community Service Line. This vacancy will be filled with either a Social Worker, Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, or a Staff Psychologist.

Responsibilities

• Identify Veterans for potential case management needs through self-referral, referrals from family/caregivers, or referrals from BHIP or community partners.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed, developing crisis management plans in the least restrictive setting; follow protocols for medical or psychiatric emergencies.
• Screen and assess Veterans for clinical eligibility using standardized tools to ensure consistent services; complete comprehensive assessments of family, economic, community, and psychosocial support systems.
• Mental health diagnosing using DSM-5 and ICD-10 codes; document diagnostic impressions in psychosocial assessments when appropriate.
• Identify key concerns, needs, and preferences of Veterans, family/caregivers; assign initial level of care coordination and stratify Veterans based on case management interventions and frequency of contacts.
• Initiate problem-solving strategies, organize and prioritize goals and objectives using SMART tenants; collaborate with Veteran, family, or caregiver to broker these processes.

Qualifications

• Education: Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program.
• Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, including diagnosis and treatment.
• Experience: At least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience, and licensed to practice at the independent practice level.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Engage in intake and assessment, problem identification, diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation; use a wide variety of individual, group, or family counseling interventions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds.
