About the role

The Department of Counseling Services is seeking a Licensed Professional Counselor(s) (LPC) to assist students in defining and accomplishing personal and academic goals. This role involves providing counseling, including on-call crisis intervention, to help students overcome personal, educational, or behavioral problems that interfere with healthy living and success at the university. The position supports student development by enhancing their growth potential and helping them benefit from their academic and social environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling, consultation, and outreach focused on the developmental needs and issues of students.
• Deliver on-call crisis counseling and intervention support to students in need.
• Offer psycho-education on topics such as anxiety, depression, stress, emotional regulation, relationships, eating concerns, substance abuse, sexual assault, and other student welfare issues.
• Support student adjustment and learning in residence halls through outreach and educational programs.
• Train the campus community on suicide awareness, referral processes, listening skills, conflict management, crisis intervention, and other relevant topics.
• Provide consulting services related to student issues concerning counseling, development, and behavior management in the residential community.
• Maintain positive and professional customer service relations with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members.
• Demonstrate a professional attitude, treat everyone with dignity and respect, and uphold the "Student’s First" value at CNU.
• Complete work in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner while adhering to workplace safety regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to support office functions and services.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, counselor education, social work, or clinical/counseling psychology by the start date. Coursework must include individual and group counseling, crisis response, psychological assessment, theories of personality, abnormal psychology or psychopathology, standards of ethical practice, and substance abuse prevention.
• Must be currently licensed or license-eligible as an LPC. If not currently licensed, the requirement is to obtain Virginia licensure within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in providing individual or group counseling.
• Experience in crisis counseling and intervention, including on-call response and emergency hospitalization procedures.
• Experience counseling special populations, such as those at risk for suicide, victims of sexual assault, and individuals with substance abuse issues.
• Experience working in a university counseling center.

Skills

• Strong abilities in counseling, crisis response, outreach programming, and communication.
• Knowledge of individual and group counseling theory and practice.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Starting salary range: $58,519 to $80,464, commensurate with education and experience.
