Responsibilities
- Teach a maximum of sixteen children.
- Meet and greet children upon arrival to and from school daily.
- Perform spot health checks on all children upon arrival.
- Supervise the Teacher Assistant and any other designated employees.
- Conduct annual employee performance evaluations and make personnel recommendations as needed.
- Manage the classroom environment to ensure compliance with codes, fire and safety standards, health standards, food handler's regulations, USDA Regulations, and state licensure.
- Maintain an inventory of classroom supplies and equipment; request supplies as needed.
- Maintain confidential and comprehensive files on each child, including documentation such as Child Data Forms, Anecdotal Notes, contact forms, home visit forms, referral forms, attendance records, and medical/developmental data.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans for each child in areas such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual perceptual skills, self-help skills, language skills, and cognitive skills.
- Conduct at least two home visits and/or conferences per child per year; document these in weekly lesson plans and submit copies to the Program Coordinator.
- Submit a monthly report to the Program Coordinator detailing classroom activities, lesson themes, field trips, and the number of home visits/conferences.
- Maintain an accurate class roster with names, addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, parents' names, emergency contacts, and other required data.
- Maintain and submit accurate monthly attendance records to the Case Management Worker by the last day of the month.
- Report directly to the Program Coordinator; in their absence, report to the Child Care Component Director.
- Recruit, train, orient, and supervise volunteers in the classroom; monitor and report volunteer hours monthly.
- Actively involve parents in classroom activities on an ongoing basis.
- Attend required trainings, workshops, and in-services related to the job.
- Treat children, parents, and families with dignity and respect; maintain a positive attitude and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Virginia License in Early Childhood or Elementary Education (Pre K - 6).
- Experience teaching preschool-age children preferred.
- Background check required for employment.
- Valid Virginia Driver's license required.
