About the role
The Residential (RES) program, also known as the Diermeier Therapeutic Youth Home in North Lawndale, serves 70 youth, primarily those transitioning from DCFS, group homes, foster care, and psychiatric hospitals. The facility employs over 150 staff members who provide a range of services including life skills, tutoring, therapy, educational opportunities, and recreational activities. The goal is to help youth successfully transition to foster care or transitional living services.
Responsibilities
- Administers psychotropic medication to clients as needed.
- Absess and document post restraint injury or illness.
- Records administration of medication(s) in the client’s medical record.
- Advises clients of dosage, name of medication, reason for prescription, and possible side effects.
- Ensures medication cart is orderly and stocked with all client’s current medication.
- Checks all medication for expiration date and disposes of properly when outdated.
- Assesses all client’s health needs with consultation of the program RN.
- Completes appropriate Medicaid documentation to support the administration of psychotropic medication.
- Provides education to youth and staff regarding individual health issues.
- Checks to ensure that clients have sufficient medication(s) on the units.
- Assesses clients, in consultation with the program RN.
- Assesses clients for any sign of injury after any physical intervention, as needed.
- Participates in supervisory sessions and other related program meetings.
- Maintains current knowledge through participation in training sessions and other related program meetings, on a regular basis.
- Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.
Requirements
- State of Illinois LPN registration.
- Two (2) years experience in a medical or psychiatric hospital setting or other inpatient type of treatment program/center.
