About the role

Responsibilities
- Provide professional-level nursing services at the South Dakota Developmental Center that require the application of basic nursing principles, practices, and techniques following established healthcare procedures and standards.
- Evaluate client behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications.
- Follow directions, prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports.
- Apply nursing techniques as delegated by physicians or registered nurses.
- Evaluate client behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff.
Requirements
- Must be licensed or be eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota (associate degree, bachelor's degree, or 3-year diploma).
- The nursing level depends on the qualifications and experience of the incumbent.
- All certificates and/or tests required for performance at this level must be obtained and/or completed.
Qualifications
- Experience working with adolescents or adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
- An educational background in psychology, sociology, counseling, or another related field is requested.
Skills
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of patient care.
- Knowledge of hospital and clinic routine and procedures.
- Knowledge of IV therapy.
- Knowledge of the care and use of medical equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of basic human behavior.
- Knowledge of problems experienced by and methods of supervising people with developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of CPR and first aid.
- Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques.
- Knowledge of patient’s rights.
- Knowledge of document completion and review.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practices.
- Knowledge of recent development in the field of professional nursing applicable to the area of assignment.

Pay
Pay is dependent on years of experience, with RN $34.26 - $40.16 per hour and LPN $26.52- $31.13 per hour.
Schedule
- Work 36 hours per week
- Shifts can vary with rotating weekends and holidays
- Shift differential is offered for evening and overnight hours
