Licensed Practical Nurse (Oncology)

About the role

The Outpatient Oncology Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a part of the MSSC Services at the Kansas City VA Medical Center located in Kansas City - MO. With a focus on direct patient centered care, the Outpatient Specialty Clinic LPN is responsible for actively participating as part of a high functioning care team and working closely with Registered Nurses (RNs), physicians, and other team members to provide efficient, high-quality care.

Requirements

• Basic Requirements:
• Graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing
• Licensed as a licensed practical or vocational nurse
• Full - active - current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. - Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia

Qualifications

• Experience: 2 years practice as LPN, 2 years outpatient experience, Care Management experience

Skills

• Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures specific to the designated patient population
• Knowledge of disease entities of the patient population to enable him/her to provide patient/family education in an individualized manner
• Ability to recognize deviations from normal and respond effectively and efficiently in urgent or emergent situations
• Appropriate Documentation of all clinical interactions as part of visits, phone calls or secure messaging
• Assists and/or completes minor procedures, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patient, ensuring comfort and privacy, obtaining and labeling laboratory specimens, preparing clinical rooms for use
• Technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations
• Ability to observe, identify, and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education
• In organizing and delivering care, the LPN/LVN recognizes and considers emotional, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and age-related factors
• Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures
• Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medication/treatments and promptly and accurately documents noted changes and reports any deviations from normal to RN or MD/DO
• Knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patient's condition, to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and to accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information
• Completed work should need only a general review by a registered nurse or physician for appropriateness and conformity with established policies/procedures

• GS-3: $19.23 - $24.30 per hour
• GS-4: $24.30 - $30.37 per hour
• GS-5: $30.37 - $37.44 per hour
• GS-6: $37.44 - $44.51 per hour
