Licensed Practical Nurse Med Surg Oncology

Specializes in providing high-quality care to oncology patients, including palliative care and chemotherapy administration within a 32-bed unit that also serves medical-surgical patients with conditions such as CHF, diabetes, cellulitis, pneumonia, and respiratory illnesses. The unit fosters teamwork, mentorship for new hires, and professional growth in nursing practice.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient admission and check-in, including orientation and completion of necessary forms.
• Prepares and administers medications within the LPN scope of practice; assists with patient activities of daily living and preparation for medical or surgical interventions.
• Obtains and tracks specimens for laboratory analysis; documents patient care, interventions, and updates care plans accurately and timely.
• Communicates with supervisory RN, physicians, or licensed independent practitioners regarding patient care and changes in condition.
• Participates in patient education about health status, maintenance, and management of conditions.
• Follows legal and ethical standards, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and participates in quality improvement projects.
• Acts as a mentor or trainer to other staff as required.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• For RNs with less than 12 months of experience: must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (required for hires or promotions after 4/27/2025).

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment.
• Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve and carry supplies, and lift heavy items.
• Walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including navigating crowded and busy rooms.
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.

Schedule

• Rotating days and nights, 12-hour shifts.
• 36 scheduled weekly hours.

Pay

$26.74 - $41.28 per hour, dependent upon experience.
