Licensed Practical Nurse Med Ortho
Essential Functions
- Affords assistance with admission and check-in processes, including orienting patients and completing necessary forms.
- Prepares and administers medications within the scope of practice, and assists with patient activities of daily living, preparing them for medical or surgical interventions.
- Obtains and tracks specimens for laboratory analysis, and documents patient care, interventions, updating care plans accurately and timely.
- Communicates with supervisory RN, physicians, or licensed independent practitioners regarding patient care and changes in condition, and participates in patient education about health status, maintenance, and management of conditions.
- Fulfills legal and ethical standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, accurate documentation, and participates in quality improvement projects and initiatives, acting as a mentor or trainer to other staff if required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in state of practice.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire OR obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) is required if applicable to unit.
- Might need IV certification as required by facility.
- Colorado sites: Current IV Certification or obtain IV Certification in the State of practice within three (3) months of hire.
- Montana sites: Completion of in-house education and competency sign-off within three (3) months of hire.
- LPNs hired into hospital departments that do not include a long-term care or behavioral health setting must be enrolled and complete their RN within 4 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in a clinic or acute hospital nursing setting preferred.
- One (1) year specialty clinic experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. Includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.). May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
