Responsibilities
- Assists the physician in assessing patient needs through data collection: history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and diagnostic data analysis.
- Performs direct patient care, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
- Prepares patients to be seen by the physician.
- Formulates the initial patient database by collecting pertinent information (vital signs, history, chief complaint) and documenting it in the patient’s chart.
- Records database information in the patient’s medical record as appropriate.
- Performs specialized tests such as audiometry, electrocardiography, inhalation treatments, and selected laboratory procedures.
- Prepares and administers medications and injections as ordered by the physician.
- Assists the physician with treatments and procedures.
- Provides patient education tailored to individual situations.
- Schedules testing and referral appointments per physician instructions.
- Consults with patients via telephone, addressing concerns or referring calls to the physician as needed.
- Performs follow-up calls to patients.
- Cleans and straightens examination rooms between patients according to OSHA standards.
- Maintains cleanliness and availability of instruments in examination rooms.
- Sets up and maintains equipment; reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Manages medical supply inventory, checks expiration dates on drugs and vaccines, and disposes of outdated medications.
- Orders medical supplies and assists drug representatives as needed.
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of all necessary equipment.
- Promotes a learning environment by encouraging co-workers’ continuing education.
- Assists in reviewing the quality of patient care through chart audits and data collection.
- Actively participates in departmental quality assurance projects.
- Promotes the practice’s mission and philosophy.
- Projects a positive image to promote the practice.
- Demonstrates flexibility by performing duties of other department personnel when workload requires.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as an LPN (SCLLR) in good standing.
- Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Computer skills required.
