NaphCare is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team of medical professionals in Ukiah, CA, providing healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Mendocino County Jail.

About the role

As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals in a secure, dynamic environment. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply—we provide training in correctional healthcare.

Schedule: Full-time day shift, 6 a.m.–6 p.m., Thursday–Saturday.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments, including interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history
  • Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight)
  • Provide wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
  • Administer medications, including injections, and monitor reactions
  • Maintain medical records using the electronic health record system, TechCare
  • Observe patient health and mental health status
  • Provide emergency first aid
  • Deliver patient education and assist with discharge/release planning

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing program
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Active state certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Active CPR certification
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information
  • Professionalism, integrity, and adherence to a Code of Conduct
  • Compliance with correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift
