About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Ottumwa Regional Health Center works under the supervision of the department Director and Manager, and the registered nurse. They provide nursing care for acutely ill patients, perform assigned procedures within the scope of practice as set by the Iowa State Board of Nursing, contribute to patient assessments, document care, assist with daily living activities, monitor patient status, communicate with healthcare team members, advocate for patient well-being, participate in performance improvement, and adhere to flexible shift requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care for acutely ill patients
  • Performs assigned procedures within the scope of practice as set by the Iowa State Board of Nursing
  • Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN
  • Documents patient care provided
  • Affords assistance with daily living activities including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
  • Maintains regular monitoring and communication of patient status and responses to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and family
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education
  • Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program required with a current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse License in Iowa or from a Compact State
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • One (1) year med/surg nursing experience preferred

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program required with a current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse License in Iowa or from a Compact State. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred but not required.
