Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the CNA's and Medication Technicians in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Ensure that the written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department are followed by all nursing personnel assigned to you.
- Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained.
- Ensure that the nursing personnel under your direction are following their respective job descriptions.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, studies, charting, etc. as necessary.
- Participate in the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate in the updating of the resident's written discharge plan as required.
- Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the resident's discharge plan as necessary.
- Participate in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift are required.
- Periodically review the department's policy & procedure manuals, etc. Make recommendations for revisions.
- Meet with your assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts services, programs and activities.
- Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
- Assist with admission, transfer and discharge residents as required.
- Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit to the Business Office as required.
- Perform charting and documentation according to facilities policy and procedure manual.
- Prepare, administer and document medication as ordered by physician and according to facility policy and procedure manual.
- Function as an Assistant Responder for Independent Living residents.
Job Requirements
- As an LPN/RN, you must possess strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with patients, families, physicians, community resources and visitors.
- Candidates must be able to work in a collaborative and shared leadership environment.
- Must possess and demonstrate personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Penick Village.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Must display professionalism both in appearance and in attitude.
- Must possess the ability to solve problems and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel and the public.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult personnel.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
- Must be able to communicate strongly and effectively.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Education
- Currently licensed as an LPN in the state of North Carolina
- CPR Certification
