Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision must align with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility. You will ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties in accordance with state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents.
• Supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants in accordance with facility standards.
• Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
• Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for quality resident care.
• Apply knowledge of nursing and medical practices, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to long-term care.
• Relay information concerning a resident’s condition as needed.
• Provide data to the Quality Assurance & Assessment Committee upon request.
• Seek out and incorporate new methods and principles into existing nursing practices.
• Demonstrate patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and a willingness to handle difficult residents.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved LPN/LVN program (minimum requirement).
• Current, unencumbered, active LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
• One year of experience in a related field.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and long-term care regulations.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education, workshops, and seminars.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
