Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Since Florida is a compact state, LPNs with nursing licenses from other compact states are accepted. Additional details:

• If a candidate is already in the Clearinghouse, no additional background screening is required by DOH.
• A level 1 vendor background check meets requirements.
• No interviews or additional credentialing (beyond verifying licenses in NURSYS and CRT licenses in DOH MQA) are required, but license numbers must be provided.

About the Role

This position supports emergency shelter operations in DeLand, FL, during hurricane or emergency deployments. DOH staff will provide training for contract staff.

• Deployment is typically communicated 24 hours in advance, with shifts lasting a few days and relief staff rotating after 72 hours (duration may vary).
• Shifts are 12 hours on, 12 hours off, with off hours paid if on-site. Leaving the site during off hours results in unpaid time.
• Shelters may not open if no emergencies occur; this role is for preparedness.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in emergency shelter settings.
• Follow DOH protocols and training for shelter operations.
• Work 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM) during deployments.

Logistics and Accommodations

• Staff must bring their own cot/mattress/bedding (twin size or smaller) and personal items; no bedding is provided.
• Sleeping arrangements are in a shared staff room at the school; showers are not guaranteed.
• DOH provides PPE (gloves, masks, hand sanitizer), but staff may bring preferred personal equipment.
• Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are provided via school cafeteria during day-shift hours; staff should bring additional non-perishable food/snacks, including dietary-specific items.
• Contractors must bring IDs for on-site verification.

Schedule

On-call for emergency deployments. During activations:

• 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM).
• Off hours are paid if remaining on-site; unpaid if leaving the premises.
