Matheny Medical and Educational Center has career opportunities for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) at our Basking Ridge, NJ Community Residence.

About the role

Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our Adult Services Program includes seven licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers, staffed by experienced therapists and instructors to support adult patients in attaining their highest level of functioning and community integration.

Schedule

• Part Time: Every other Saturday, 7pm–7am
• Full Time: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7am–7pm (sign-on bonus eligible)

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary nurse for a caseload of community residents as assigned by the Community Nurse Manager.
• Provide skilled nursing care to community residents.
• Interact with other members of the Community Residence staff and day program staff to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
• Document all aspects of patients’ health care in accordance with DDD and Community Residence requirements.
• Monitor and coordinate care with the Community Resident Assistants.
• Provide staff training to promote professional development and optimize patient care.
• Engage in professional relationships with community health professionals (including physicians, pharmacists, rehabilitation services, etc.).
• Review all residents’ physical and medication records.
• Ensure the implementation of medically prescribed diets and exercise programs.
• Consult with medical staff on medical, health, and safety issues.
• Respond to crises and intervene as needed.
• Recommend policies and procedures on health issues and monitor their implementation.
• Perform monitoring activities as assigned by the Community Nurse Manager and/or Group Home Manager.
• Provide “hands-on care” of the residents, including ADL care and assisting with eating.
• Oversee or perform administration of all medications and treatments while on duty.
• Communicate effectively with group home staff regarding issues within the residence.
• Complete paperwork required for the Community Residence.
• Review meal plans to ensure delivery of medically prescribed and proper nutrition.
• Provide training to new Community Residence staff and inform them of applicable policies and procedures.
• Accompany and transport residents to appointments and outpatient visits.
• Follow proper medication administration procedures in accordance with DDD and Community Residence policies.
• Follow medical documentation procedures for physicians.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living and personal care for all patients.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Current Licensed Practical Nursing license issued by New Jersey State Board of Nursing.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.

Pay

• Full Time: $30–$33 per hour
• Part Time/Per Diem: $35 per hour

Full-time qualified candidates who are hired will receive a signing bonus of $10,000 ($5,000 payable after completion of six months of continuous employment and the remaining $5,000 after completion of one year of continuous employment).
