About the Role

Provides 1:1 supervision and monitoring for a special needs student. This includes administering and flushing medications via J-tube, G-tube, and nebulizer, performing pulse oximetry, providing oxygen, tracheostomy care, and managing daily living needs such as positioning, transfers, mobility, toileting/diapering, dressing/undressing, and emergency evacuations.

Responsibilities

  • On/off and in the bus medication administration
  • Pulse oximetry and oxygen provision
  • Tracheostomy care and HME changes
  • Tracheal suctioning as needed
  • All daily living needs including positioning, transfers, mobility, toileting/diapering, dressing/undressing, and emergency evacuations
  • Wheelchair management during field trips and transitions within the school building and community

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience working with children
  • 2+ years experience in primary care or home health settings
  • CPR certification
  • First aid training
  • Licensed Practical Nurse Certification
  • Special Education certification from the State of Wisconsin (fee of $100.00 for a five-year license, renewals required)
  • Good independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations
  • Positive role model for students
  • Dependable and punctual with excellent attendance
  • Sensitive to the needs of students
  • Physical stamina for tasks involving reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, climbing, balancing, and running/walking
  • Satisfactory evaluations

  • Familiar with organization and operation of school
  • Ability to work well with students, staff, and public
  • Ability to work with medically fragile students
  • Ability to work with students who communicate in non-conventional manners/systems
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work load
  • Good independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations
  • Willingness and ability to follow detailed verbal and written directives
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be creative in problem solving
  • Must be a positive role model for students
  • Must be dependable and punctual with excellent attendance
  • Must be aware of sensitive to the needs of students
  • Must be willing to update educational skills
