Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive care focusing on medication administration, documentation, transcribing provider orders, and continuous assessments.
  • Gather detailed behavioral and physical health data—including substance‑use history—and accurately document observed behaviors and interventions.
  • Educate individuals and families about behavioral‑health diagnoses and medications during admission and discharge to enhance treatment adherence.
  • Contribute data for nursing assessments, ongoing re‑assessment, and health history under direct RN supervision.
  • Collaborate with the RN on the individual’s care plan, reporting blood‑glucose levels, CIWA/CINA scores, and breathalyzer results.
  • Transcribe provider orders and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Coordinate medication consent forms and perform chart checks, acting as a secondary verifier for prescribed medications.
  • Ensure accurate medication reconciliation and proper storage.
  • Draw labs and provide wound care as ordered by providers.
  • Accurately record all medications brought in by individuals.
  • Assist Behavioral Health Specialists in managing the milieu and gathering information related to psychopharmacological and physiological needs for youth and adults.
  • Provide education on physical health, psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, and psychopharmacology to individuals, families, and care teams.
  • Use verbal interventions to defuse potentially dangerous or out‑of‑control behaviors in both youth and adult populations.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic intervention techniques and understand safety‑related roles and responsibilities.
  • Administer emergency medications during seclusion/restraint processes under RN supervision.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of psychotropic medications and their applications.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to support the team and individuals in care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Unrestricted, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license through the Virginia Board of Nursing or multistate licensure privilege.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or a related field.
  • Ability to perform Safe Clinch patient restraint techniques.
  • Compliance with the company’s mandatory vaccination policy (fully vaccinated or exempt per company process).
  • State of Virginia fingerprint clearance.
  • Pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check.
  • Pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) background investigation.
  • Physical ability to safely perform interventions (standing, pivoting, reaching, kneeling, lowering to the floor, supporting another person’s weight), lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 lb occasionally, and tolerate prolonged walking and standing in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Comfort working with individuals who may exhibit agitation, aggression, or unpredictable behavior.
  • Knowledge of EHR systems (preferred).
  • QMHP credential (preferred).

Pay

Virginia pay range: $30 – $40 USD per hour.

  • Shift differential: +$2/hr for Monday‑Thursday nights.
