About the role
Administers nursing care within scope of practice as set forth in Division (F) of Section 4723.01 of Ohio Revised Code under direction of registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist or chiropractor, including:
- Administering oxygen; applying sterile dressings; inserting catheters; reinserting gastrotomy tubes; suctioning; irrigating wounds; giving enemas, douches; collecting specimens; performing dialysis treatments; operating hemodialysis equipment & monitoring patient during procedure
- Assisting physicians with physical exams, treatments and/or laboratory tests
- Assisting in emergencies by administering first-aid, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and/or restraining patients
- Administering controlled drugs such as narcotics and minor tranquilizers and non-controlled medication in oral, rectal, topical or injectable form (intramuscular & subcutaneous injections only) and providing medication instructions to patients
Responsibilities
- Maintains medication accountability records (charts patient records; prepares and counts medication; maintains medication stock and medical equipment and supplies)
- Observes, documents and reports patient conditions (medication reactions, treatment responses, patient behavior and progress) and prepares and/or maintains related reports and records (unusual incident reports, patient records, medication reports, seclusion/restraint logs, patient kardex, team plan)
- Provides general nursing, direct care and/or programming assistance (takes patient vital signs; assists with personal grooming and hygiene, bathing or daily living activities; administers topical ointments and solutions, eye, ear and/or nose drops; repositions patients; responds to patient alarms; makes medical appointments for patients; escorts patients and assists with recreational activities; provides one-to-one group activities according to intervention stated on treatment plan)
- Provides assistance to lower-level direct care staff (provides work direction, orientation and training) in providing general unskilled nursing care (dressing, bathing, feeding) to patients
- Attends and participates in various meetings (staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training programs, nursing meetings) as assigned
- Orders medication and medical supplies
- Cleans nurses station and medication room/medication cart (cleans, sterilizes and restocks cart; defrosts and cleans medication refrigerator)
- Performs clerical tasks (answers phone, files)
Requirements
- Licensed practical nurse license issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code
- MDS certification issued by ANNAC (American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination)
Skills
- Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures; pharmacology; client/patient care; first-aid; CPR; general hospital practices and procedures; agency, institutional, hospital or clinic practices and procedures; HIPAA regulations and standards; human relations; inventory control; employee training and development
- Skill in use of medical equipment (respirator, dialysis machine, sterilizer, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuff); hypodermics; operation of personal computer
- Ability to understand practical field of study; deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients and/or residents; understand manuals and verbal instructions associated with practical nursing; demonstrate dexterity to administer injections and perform medical treatments and strength to move, reposition or restrain patients
Pay
Compensation: $27.56 – $34.53 per hour
