General Summary

Affords assistance to physicians in examinations and procedures to meet the cardiac health needs of patients in a professional, confidential, and compassionate manner. Coordinates patient flow, lab work, and nurse visits to support high-quality patient care and customer service objectives.

Principal Job Functions

  • Performs nursing and other patient care activities to promote the physical and psychological well-being of patients.
  • Screens patients for relevant information to ensure the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is updated.
  • Room patients, gather patient history and vital signs, perform medication reconciliation, and document in the EHR.
  • Maintains accurate patient information in the EHR and charts, ensuring timely and complete documentation.
  • Coordinates patient care and follow-up activities under direct assignment, supporting providers to achieve quality patient care and customer service goals.
  • Ensures exam rooms are clean and equipped with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Supports physicians during examinations and performs electrocardiograms.
  • Administers medication as directed, observes patient reactions, and reports findings to the provider.
  • Provides education to patients and their families regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, post-treatment instructions, nutrition, and general health and wellness.
  • Understands diagnostic appropriateness for test/procedure ordering to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Assists with pre-authorizations, release of information requests, FMLA certifications, and other administrative tasks.
  • Responds to and refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Manages work hours, supplies, and clinical costs within fiscal responsibility and budget constraints.
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned.
  • May assist providers at both the main campus and outreach clinics.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and affiliations.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited professional nursing program required.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience required, preferably in a clinic setting.

Credentials / Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
