About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing care to all Guests and guests. The L.P.N. provides supervision of staff and safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of all Guests/guests under their care by following applicable laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provides quality nursing care to Guests/guests in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, and freedom of choice.
- Supervises C.N.A’s and all subordinate staff, checking their work to ensure assignments are completed.
- Serves as a point of contact for Guests/guests, answering and responding to call lights promptly and courteously.
- Administers all parenteral, intramuscular, and sub-cutaneous injections, as well as medications within the scope of practice.
- Maintains a current report of narcotics received and used, reviews daily documentation of controlled substance dispensing, and ensures drug inventory verification.
- Carries out direct contemporaneous charting in your shift, documenting detailed monthly evaluations of each Guest.
- Assures that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained when providing care.
- Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to appropriate persons.
- Ensures that Guest care plans are being followed and assesses each Guest’s status in accord with their care plan.
- Rounds with physicians when needed, administers or supervises all treatments prescribed by physicians, and assists with new admissions, re-admissions, and transfers.
- Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests/guests, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from and accredited nursing program.
- Current State License as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- C.P.R. Certified.
- One year experience as a L.P.N. in a long term care setting.
- One year experience as a C.N.A.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Joint Commission procedures.
- Knowledge of IDPH regulations.

- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in computer systems and software relevant to nursing.
