About the role

The LPN will work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other ancillary members of the Health Services Team to provide comprehensive and holistic clinical care for student illnesses, injuries, immunizations, and health education needs.

There are two openings for this role: one on a 9-month schedule and one on an 11-month schedule. Both positions report directly to the Assistant Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support primary care providers and other nurses by:
    • Rooming patients and obtaining patient histories
    • Collecting vital signs
    • Coordinating care (phone calls, appointment changes, referral assistance)
    • Administering medications and injections with proper orders
    • Documenting clinical interactions in patient chart (EMR)
    • Assisting providers with women’s pelvic exams or minor surgical procedures (e.g., sutures, I&D, IUD/Nexplanon insertion/removal)
  • Perform clinical duties including:
    • IV insertion and maintenance
    • Specimen collection
    • Ensuring autoclave and sterilization procedures are followed
  • Laboratory duties:
    • Phlebotomy
    • Performing CLIA-waived laboratory testing and control testing
    • Tracking laboratory inventory and stocking lab supplies
    • Entering lab results in EMR
    • Handling specimens (including use of centrifuge)
    • Serving as liaison to reference laboratory to ensure timeliness of service and results
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • LPN license to practice in the state of New York
  • 3+ years’ experience as an LPN, preferably in an ambulatory care setting
  • CPR certification
  • Effective communication skills

Schedule

Two schedule options available: 9-month or 11-month.
