Licensed Nursing Assistant - Temporary

About the Role

This position involves patient care and treatment work at the aide level in a long-term care setting, working an assigned shift. Work assignments are performed under the direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse and/or Registered Nurse. In-service training courses are required, and staff are encouraged to pursue continuing education.

Schedule

We are looking to hire part-time (temporary/per-diem) staff on all shifts (days, evenings, and nights). These are temporary positions working approximately 24 hours per week. The hours may include working some weekend shifts. Shift differentials apply to evening and night shifts.

• Days: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
• Evenings: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
• Nights: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am

Pay

Starting pay may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Duties are performed in a long-term care and residential care setting. Incumbents may be assigned to any area of the facility and to any shift. Responsibilities include:

• Standing for long periods of time, walking for extended periods and distances, sitting, repetitive movements, bending, twisting, stretching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
• Regular and direct interaction with residents with varying degrees of physical and mental illness, dementia, infectious diseases, severe physical and mental limitations, and residents who may display unpredictable behavior.
• Handling high levels of stress and emotional situations, exposure to potentially physically and verbally violent patient populations, and exposure to infectious diseases.

Requirements

• Possession of (or eligible for) licensure as a Vermont Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA). Must maintain licensure as a condition of employment.
• Overtime work is required to maintain minimum staffing levels per regulation and is a condition of employment. The ability to work overtime as required is considered an essential function of this job class.

Qualifications

This position is open to all State employees and external applicants. Candidates, including current State employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, or persons exercising re-employment rights, must pass a fingerprint-supported background investigation applicable to the position. Additionally, in accordance with Federal and State regulatory standards, the following checks will be conducted:

• Vermont and/or national criminal record checks
• Office of Inspector General exclusion database checks
• Motor vehicle driving record checks (as appropriate)
• Adult and child abuse registry checks (as appropriate)

Any person who has had a charge of abuse, neglect, or exploitation substantiated against them is not eligible under the Vermont Veterans’ Home licensing requirements.
