Licensed Nursing Assistant

This position is accountable for delivering patient care according to established policies and procedures. The role involves carrying out direct physical cares, documenting resident needs and conditions, and directing other non-licensed personnel on the nursing unit when indicated. The position may serve as "responsible/charge" on a unit during a particular shift but remains accountable to the LPN for monitoring and the RN for supervision.

Responsibilities

• Communicate regularly with the charge nurse regarding observations, problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, and conditions.
• Observe residents' medical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes to appropriate staff.
• Provide explanations and understanding of nursing care to residents and families, offering support related to medical care as appropriate.
• Monitor resident rooms for safety hazards (e.g., faulty electrical equipment, frayed cords, scatter rugs) and negotiate replacement or removal with residents/families.
• Demonstrate proper body mechanics when assisting residents, including lifting/moving items and physical activities.
• Instruct and reinforce proper techniques for residents in the safe use of walkers and wheelchairs.
• Assist in the admission, orientation, discharge, and transfer of residents, including packing/unpacking belongings, initiating work orders, orienting residents to their environment, and coordinating shower, laundry, and dining arrangements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed Nursing Aide certificate.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Licensed Nursing Assistant.
• Minimum of 6 months full-time experience as a nursing assistant in a long-term geriatric setting.
• Proven leadership skills and a spirit of cooperation to foster rehabilitation and growth.
• Strong observation skills and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Well-organized with the ability to show compassion to senior adults.
• Effective written and verbal communication in English with residents, families, and staff.

Physical Requirements

• Majority of time spent standing and walking, with considerable bending, stooping, and supporting residents.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds independently, 50 pounds with assistance, and support up to 100 pounds.
• Manual dexterity and keen vision required for equipment use.
• Exposure to unpleasant conditions and potential infectious materials as part of routine job functions.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $18.15 - $24.14 per hour. Factors influencing pay include job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and internal/external equity considerations.
