About the role
Join the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and contribute to our mission, “Helping people live better lives.” As a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner at Lincoln Regional Center—a Joint-Commission accredited state psychiatric hospital—you will provide therapy to adult patients with mental illness as an integral part of our Behavioral Health Division.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and/or group therapy according to individual treatment plans.
- Share clinical observations with the treatment team.
- Compile patient individual and group progress notes, documenting according to LRC Standards and DHHS/LRC policies and procedures.
- Prepare for interdisciplinary treatment planning, actively participate in treatment planning, and contribute therapist perspective and recommendations.
- Participate in team and/or clinical meetings to address program concerns and needs.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Attend and participate in program planning committees, in-service training, and monthly LMHP department meetings.
- Present and participate in peer reviews to demonstrate competency.
Requirements
- Behavioral Health Practitioner IV: State of Nebraska licenses as Mental Health Practitioner and Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
- Behavioral Health Practitioner III: Nebraska license as Mental Health Practitioner or Nebraska license as Alcohol and Drug Counselor AND Nebraska Provisional License as Mental Health Practitioner or Nebraska Provisional License as Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
- Behavioral Health Practitioner II: Nebraska License as Mental Health Practitioner.
- Behavioral Health Practitioner I: Provisional license to practice as a mental health practitioner in Nebraska.
Legal Requirements: Licensure requirements pursuant to Nebraska State Statutes 38-2122 and 38-316.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fully licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP); provisional license holders will also be considered.
Knowledge
- DSM-5, patterns and processes of normal growth and development.
- Mental and emotional disorders; behavior management and modification; applied behavior analysis.
- Signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug abuse, dependence, or disorders.
- Psychoeducational training; individual, group, and family therapy techniques.
- System theories and biopsychosocial intervention theories.
- Social and cultural factors as related to mental health and substance abuse.
- Physical and mental problems of clients with alcohol and drug abuse, dependence, or disorders.
- Program-specific treatment issues; methods and resources available for educating clients in chemical dependency.
- Applicable agency policies and organizations; program-specific philosophies, policies, and procedures.
Skills
- Individual and group counseling.
- Communicating effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing.
- Screening, assessment, and diagnosis.
- Managing conflict and diffusing anger while maintaining a controlled environment.
Abilities
- Demonstrate the application of therapy methods and techniques.
- Communicate as a group facilitator with persons served, other staff, families, and other agencies.
- Monitor patient progress and recommend new strategies.
- Prepare written reports; document findings and treatment.
- Conceptualize, integrate, and express interdisciplinary input.
- Explain the significance of behavior patterns and signs to patients and other team members.
Pay
- Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner AND Alcohol and Drug Counselor with the State of Nebraska or as LIMHP: $36.798/hour.
- Mental Health Practitioner or Alcohol and Drug Counselor License AND a Provisional license in the other: $34.231/hour.
- Licensed as Mental Health Practitioner: $31.844/hour.
- Provisionally licensed applicants: $27.145/hour until fully licensed.
Additional $3.00/hour facility differential.
Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Wednesday - Saturday, 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM (with Sunday, Monday, Tuesday off)
