Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the clinical management of patients through the process of evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and referral to the appropriate resources.
    • Provides individual, group, and crisis intervention.
    • Coordinates out-patient visits to ensure timely access to the appropriate services.
    • Identifies and monitors high-risk patients and expedites an individualized crisis management plan.
    • Develops and maintains mechanisms to assure continuity of care for individuals requiring acute care.
  • Provides and documents patient education consistent with HUHS policies and procedures.
  • Affords and participates in the development of treatment plans consistent with the policies and procedures of CAMHS.
  • Supervises trainees from the Sports Medicine LMHC program at Boston University.
  • Serves as HUHS departmental committees as needed.

Education and Outreach

  • Partners with Sports Medicine team to conduct mental health screenings for student-athletes during annual physicals.
  • For the Sports Medicine Team, provides psychoeducation and support around mental health concerns as needed.
  • Collaborates and makes recommendations to Sports Medicine team to support mental health concerns.
  • Consults with athletic training staff around students with mental health concerns.

Professional/Team Workplace Accountability

  • Works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities in compliance with AAAHC standards and identified areas for improvement.
  • Adheres to HUHS documentation standards and monitoring.

Compliance

  • Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the department.
  • Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the department.
  • Completes and complies with all HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security.
  • Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer.
  • Adheres to NCAA and Ivy League Rules and Regulations.

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required.
  • May be required to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience. Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) with current Massachusetts License.
  • Additional Qualifications and Skills: Demonstrated work experience in the following areas: student-athlete mental health issues, consultation to athletic trainers, and student-athletes, assessment/treatment of a diverse population, substance addiction, eating disorders, multicultural adjustment issues and performance issues. Experience with emergency care and crisis management.

Education and Certifications

  • Demonstrated work experience in the following areas: student-athlete mental health issues, consultation to athletic trainers, and student-athletes, assessment/treatment of a diverse population, substance addiction, eating disorders, multicultural adjustment issues and performance issues. Experience with emergency care and crisis management.
  • Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) with current Massachusetts License.
  • Certified in first aid, CPR and AED.
