About the role

The Laboratory Technician supports the day-to-day operations of the Urology physician office Laboratory. They perform a variety of clinical lab testing and clerical functions, including specimen verification, processing, and preparation, microscopy slide reading, and reporting in EPIC.

Responsibilities

  • Performs moderate complex testing in accordance with state, federal, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Verifies, processes, and prepares specimens.
  • Reads microscopy slides and reports findings in EPIC.
  • Affixes to staff competency requirements.
  • Performs and records quality control activities according to manufacturer’s recommendations and department policies.
  • Notifies supervisor of critical situations that cannot be resolved in a timely manner.
  • Completes proficiency testing as required.
  • Operates office equipment such as fax machines and printers, and uses basic computer skills for electronic medical record management.
  • Prioritizes workload and demonstrates flexibility to meet customer and departmental needs.
  • Communicates effectively and provides excellent customer service to nursing staff, physicians, patients, co-workers, and other LH customers and employees.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives to enhance turnaround times and quality of test results using decision-making and troubleshooting skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology preferred.
  • Medical Technician license required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Basic knowledge of computer, data entry, and retrieval.
