Licensed Journeyman Electrician

US Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service company, is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to work on movable-bridge projects in the West Point, VA and Matthews, VA area.

Responsibilities

• Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians or maintenance personnel in applicable procedures and techniques.
• Installs and monitors performance of installed electrical and mechanical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.
• Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical and mechanical equipment using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
• Plans electrical secondary system additions or modifications.
• May perform work of lower-level electricians or maintenance mechanics.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Reads, employs, and updates electrical and mechanical panel schedules.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including mechanical and electrical tasks.
• May be required to perform additional or different duties to address business needs and changing business practices.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
• Electrical Journeyman’s License (Virginia DPOR); negotiable if candidate can obtain within 90 days.
• Must live within one hour of both the Eltham (West Point, VA) and Gwynns Island Bridges.
• Industrial Motor Control knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of secondary electrical systems, including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.
• Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test 1000-volt and below electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances.
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for secondary systems 1000 volts and below.
• Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
• Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers.
• Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
• Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in secondary (1000-volt) circuits and systems, including:
  • Isolating faults in 1000-volt distribution systems and replacing cable runs.
  • Operating all 1000-volt controls and switchgear, including repairing and replacing those.
  • Leading, guiding, and/or training other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.

Working Conditions

• Considerable physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations requiring extensive safety precautions and protective equipment.
• Almost constant exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

Pay

$28.00 - $33.00 per hour, plus a $1,500 sign-on bonus (half paid after 90-day probationary period, remaining half paid one month later).
