About the role

The Mental Health Professional III delivers exceptional psychiatric treatment to patients and their loved ones, prioritizing patient-centered and high-quality care. Responsibilities include evaluations, psycho-education, group activities, treatment planning, discharge mapping, and therapeutic counseling. The role focuses on producing positive outcomes using verified techniques in one-on-one, family, and group counseling sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains effective communication with patients, families, multidisciplinary teams, and continuum of care providers.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and strong communication skills to interact with peers, staff, patients, and families, resolving conflicts as needed.
  • Maintains clear professional boundaries with peers, patients, and families.
  • Provides education and guidance on state commitment processes, abuse reporting requirements, duty to warn, and guardianship processes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and role in hospital codes.
  • Serves as an educational resource about behavioral services to patients, families, interdisciplinary teams, payer representatives, and other parties.
  • Reviews, coaches, and assists in training new staff and interns within approved practice and program guidelines.
  • Participates in developing department goals and clinical programming.
  • Performs utilization review as assigned.
  • Contributes to Process and Quality Improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited social work or counseling program.
  • Licensed as a Professional/Mental Health Counselor (LPC/LMHC) or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • 1 year of experience, which may include a graduate-level practicum, focused on inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, crisis prevention, or outpatient practice.
  • 3 years of experience working directly with outpatient psychiatric care patients, along with medical social work or counseling knowledge, is preferred.
