Responsibilities
- Provides individual and group drug and alcohol counseling to inmates
- Provides education and support on the subject of addiction
- Develops and distributes literature on addiction, healthy lifestyles, and healthy choices
- Affords assistance to individuals to identify their need for treatment programs
- Collaborates with other health professionals to create an individual treatment plan
- Affords assistance to inmates to meet requirements of the programs
- Be aware of the signs of recidivism
- Affords assistance in the development and implementation of treatment plans for assigned inmates
- Affords assistance to inmates in preparing for release
- Consults with Probation, the Police Department, the Prosecutor’s Office, and other agencies to coordinate rehabilitation efforts
- Affords assistance with telepsychiatry as requested by supervisors
- Teaches individual skills and techniques needed to capably participate in life activities and evaluates individual progress
- Affords assistance to inmates in developing a better sense of duty and responsibility toward society
- Interviews inmates to ascertain specific needs and provides appropriate counsel
- Documents on patient interaction in EHR
- Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA
- Provides treatment referrals as required
- Manages and administers the facility’s drug and alcohol program
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
- Must possess certification and/or license in drug/addiction counseling
- Minimum 3 years experience
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance
- Occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
