Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and group drug and alcohol counseling to inmates
• Provides education and support on the subject of addiction
• Develops and distributes literature on addiction, healthy lifestyles, and healthy choices
• Affords assistance to individuals to identify their need for treatment programs
• Collaborates with other health professionals to create an individual treatment plan
• Affords assistance to inmates to meet requirements of the programs
• Be aware of the signs of recidivism
• Affords assistance in the development and implementation of treatment plans for assigned inmates
• Affords assistance to inmates in preparing for release
• Consults with Probation, the Police Department, the Prosecutor’s Office, and other agencies to coordinate rehabilitation efforts
• Affords assistance with telepsychiatry as requested by supervisors
• Teaches individual skills and techniques needed to capably participate in life activities and evaluates individual progress
• Affords assistance to inmates in developing a better sense of duty and responsibility toward society
• Interviews inmates to ascertain specific needs and provides appropriate counsel
• Documents on patient interaction in EHR
• Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA
• Provides treatment referrals as required
• Manages and administers the facility’s drug and alcohol program

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
• Must possess certification and/or license in drug/addiction counseling
• Minimum 3 years experience

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance
• Occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
